Want to Test More Than Just Your Fitness? Calgary’s Most Comprehensive Testing Battery Is Here

Most fitness tests answer one question.

Your VO2max tells you how high your aerobic ceiling is. A body composition test tells you how your weight breaks down. A strength test tells you how much you can move.

Each one is useful. But none of them tells the full story.

What if, instead of testing one thing, you could test everything – in a single session? Cardiovascular capacity, body composition, muscle strength, movement quality, power output, mobility – all measured, all interpreted, all tied together into a clear picture of where you are and what to do next?

That’s exactly what Vital Performance Care’s Complete Fitness Testing Battery offers. And as far as we know, there’s nothing else like it in Calgary.

What Is the Complete Fitness Testing Battery?

The Complete Fitness Testing Battery is a multi-test exercise physiology assessment delivered by Certified Exercise Physiologists at Vital Performance Care in Calgary. It’s not a single test – it’s a comprehensive, structured battery of evidence-based assessments designed to give you a full-spectrum view of your physical health and performance.

Where most testing services offer one or two isolated metrics, our battery combines multiple validated tools into one cohesive session. You leave with data, context, and a clear plan – not just a number on a page.

The battery includes assessments from across the performance spectrum, typically covering:

  • VO2max testing — your gold-standard measure of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic capacity, linked to both athletic performance and long-term health outcomes
  • Body composition testing — using skinfold caliper testing to accurately track fat mass, lean mass, and body fat percentage (unlike unreliable BIA scales)
  • Isometric strength testing — using VALD testing devices to measure joint-by-joint strength and identify imbalances that could be holding you back or putting you at risk
  • Force plate testing — dual force plates that measure power output, jump height, landing asymmetries, and how your left and right sides differ under load
  • Movement assessment — a functional screen to identify compensations, mobility restrictions, and movement patterns that impact performance or increase injury risk
  • Range of motion testing — using various tools where applicable, like the VALD Dynamo for highly repeatable, objective joint mobility metrics compared against age- and sex-specific norms

Together, these tests produce a diagnostic picture of your body that no single assessment can match.

Who Is This For?

Corporate Wellness Teams

If you’re responsible for employee health and wellness at your organization, the Complete Fitness Testing Battery is one of the most impactful tools you can offer your team.

Fitness challenges and step counts are fine. But when employees get objective data — their actual cardiovascular fitness, their real strength baselines, their movement quality — it changes the conversation. It turns wellness from a vague concept into something measurable, personal, and actionable.

A corporate wellness screening at Vital gives your team members a clear baseline, a personalized report, and a pathway to follow-up care if they need it. Whether you’re running a one-time wellness day or building a longer-term employee health initiative, we can work with you.

Athletes Looking for a True Performance Snapshot

Whether you’re training for your first marathon, competing at a national level, or just serious about knowing where you stand – this battery gives you the clearest possible picture of your current fitness and where your biggest gains are hiding.

Many athletes are surprised by what the data reveals. High VO2max but significant strength asymmetries. Excellent power output but restricted hip mobility. The battery doesn’t just confirm what you’re good at – it finds what’s quietly limiting you.

Masters Athletes & Active Adults (40+)

This is one of the groups that gets the most out of comprehensive testing, and one of the least likely to think it’s meant for them.

If you’re in your 40s, 50s, or beyond and still training – whether that’s running, lifting, cycling, or something else entirely – your body responds to training differently than it did a decade ago. What worked before may not be working now, and generic advice is even less useful. The battery gives you precise data on where your cardiovascular fitness, strength, and mobility actually sit, so your training can be calibrated to your physiology – not someone else’s.

It’s also one of the best preventive investments you can make. Identifying strength imbalances, mobility gaps, or a declining VO2max early gives you something to act on before it becomes a problem.

Anyone Who Wants to Know Their Body, Not Just Guess

You don’t need to be an elite athlete to benefit from objective testing. If you’ve been training consistently but not sure if it’s working, if you’re returning from injury and want a clear baseline, or if you simply want data-driven guidance rather than generic advice – the Complete Fitness Testing Battery is built for you.

Why Vital Performance Care? Why Calgary?

There are gyms and clinics across Calgary that offer pieces of this picture. But the Complete Fitness Testing Battery – combining VO2max, force plates, VALD strength and mobility testing, body composition, and movement assessment in a single integrated session – is something we haven’t seen replicated elsewhere in the city.

Here’s what makes it different:

High level expertise. Every assessment is administered and interpreted by CSEP-Certified Exercise Physiologists often with graduate-level education in exercise science. You’re not just getting data – you’re getting expert eyes on what it means.

Lab-grade equipment, not consumer tech. We use VALD force plates, VALD Dynamo dynamometers, and validated VO2max protocols. The same category of tools used in university research labs and with professional sports teams.

Integrated interpretation. Individual tests are valuable. But the real insight comes from reading them together. Our exercise physiologists synthesize your full battery to give you an integrated picture of how your body functions as a system – not just a list of disconnected numbers.

What to Expect

Your Complete Fitness Testing Battery session takes place at our Calgary clinic/gym at 101 3rd St SW, Suite 210 – conveniently located in the Beltline area.

You’ll work one-on-one with an exercise physiologist for the duration of your session. Depending on which components are included, sessions typically run 150 minutes.

After your session, you’ll receive a full written report with your results, how they compare to age- and sex-based norms, and specific recommendations for training, recovery, or follow-up care.
