Shoulder Foundations is, by far, the best program I've ever followed. Liam Matheson is hands down one of the best personal trainers I’ve worked with. His technical knowledge of strength training, biomechanics, and movement mechanics is outstanding. Been going to Vital since it’s opening at Eau Claire. The staff are extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and professional.

Had a few massages from Naomi now, she is great. Also very clear at explaining the body/muscles being worked on and when explaining post-treatment tasks to do at home.
I feel so loose and light after a session with her.

Also had acupuncture / dry needling done by Mack. Extremely well done with good results!
Very knowledgeable and professional.

Rachel Solecki is the best physio that I’ve been seeing for almost 2 years. Really passionate and knowledgeable about movement as medicine and is SO helpful with exercises and adaptations.

Naomi Laliberte has been really incredible, helping me through two surgeries and soon chemo. I've seen dozens of massage therapists before, and no one compares to her. Naomi is even helping me through scarring issues from the surgeries and helping me get back on track, so I'm at my optimal health. I'm so incredibly thankful for her expertise, knowledge and kindness. Also, one of my good friends from Vancouver, who has issues with running injuries, swears by her whenever she's in town to visit me and will see Naomi. If you want real results, this is your person!

I recently visited Vital Performance Care for Lactate Threshold and Vo2 max testing. The experience was exceptional. The testing area was easy to access and clean. The test was conducted professionally and all the steps of the test were communicated well. The enthusiasm from the team made a great atmosphere to test in. I'd encourage athletes wanting a top level lab experience to get their testing done at Vital Performance Care.

Working with Carla has been an amazing experience. I came to Carla because of a number of chronic injuries that I was dealing with, the worst of which being a low-back injury. Any one of my injuries was enough to keep me inactive due to my pain, but today I am active again and have gained much of my strength back.

Carla's proactive nature and rehab knowledge were obvious strengths, but the thing that impressed me most is how thorough she is. At my first appointment there was a very detailed physical assessment to establish baseline strength / mobility, and a written and verbal component for injury history. We also start each session by discussing the updates on my injuries / pain flare ups, and she changes her approach accordingly. On top of all of that she is also in email contact with me outside of my sessions. It is awesome to have someone putting thought towards solving your injuries even when you aren't.

One underrated thing about Carla (and Vital generally) is the network of professionals that she can connect you with. Where her expertise might end, she knows the right person to step in. I now have a team behind me (including physios, chiros and doctors) that are all in contact with each other and rowing in the same direction. I cannot recommend working with Carla and her team more!

I’ve just recently signed up for the $20 S/C and I feel so much more confident with the plan I use when going to the gym. And I feel SO MUCH stronger now as this program makes me want to push myself even more.

Not only that but the trainers at Vital are excellent and so fun to work with.

The clinicians are truly full of knowledge and care for their patients.

Vital is just so amazing!! So if you’re wanting to check it out, PLEASE do yourself a favour and do it. 🙂

I started with Vital Performance and Liam Matheson on July 2nd. I’ve been on a weight loss journey plus am waiting for shoulder surgery. As I’m in my 70’s, I wanted to build strength stamina and general support for the journey I am on , living healthy as the years move on. The program with Liam has really been remarkable as he has adjusted what works and doesn’t without hesitation. My general well-being has improved faster than I thought it would be. I can’t say enough good things about the quality of programs at Vital and their staff. Since July, I’ve been training three days a week with Liam Matheson and getting regular treatment from Naomi Laliberte, and it’s been a game-changer. After years of failed attempts to get back in shape due to nagging injuries, Vital’s thorough initial assessment—covering injury history, current abilities, and goals—built a structured program that has sustained my progress for the first time in over a decade.

Liam’s expertise in fitness and human physiology ensures you’re getting best-in-class training. He goes above and beyond, offering guidance on healthy eating and promptly answering questions via text, even outside the scope of my training package. His focus on proper form and habit-building has maximized my workouts and kept injuries at bay.

Naomi has been incredible in helping me recover and fix pain points for me after years of neglect. I’ve seen massive improvements in pain; allowing me to continue to work on my fitness. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and thorough and even identified areas where my body had restrictions that I was unaware of. I hadn’t frequently utilized massage in the past, but have now included it in my regular schedule.

Facing my 80th birthday the importance of functional strength training became high priority. The assessment at Eau Claire Athletic Club underscored the urgency of establishing a committed program. Liam Matheson, my trainer, has a wholistic approach and curated a plan for 3x week which he personally led. In only a few months I have been able to increase my stamina for hiking and walking. A consistent hip pain has gone. The pain in my injured shoulder has disappeared and range of motion improved. Very encouraging - I look forward to continuing the program and supplementing it with other fitness programs such as yoga and Pilates. Very grateful for my increased fitness which enables a return to loved activities.

After a complete ACL tear and complex meniscus tear, she created a personalized strength program that had me back to activities like trail running and fully prepared for surgery. Post op, her use of the most current rehab protocols, regular strength testing, and attention to imbalances has kept me progressing safely and effectively. I’ve been working with Carla and Dr. Blair Murphy at Vital Performance Care for several years, and I cannot say enough about the impact they’ve had on my health and life. As a retired varsity and pro volleyball player with scoliosis and rods along my spine, I’ve dealt with my fair share of injuries and treatments over the years, but the care I’ve received at Vital has truly been the best.

I first came to Carla over 2.5 years ago with chronic back pain that had kept me from the activities I loved. Even simple movements were difficult, but she built a smart, progressive strength program that gave me stability, reduced flare-ups, and eventually got me back to tennis, golf, volleyball, biking, skiing- and doing it all pain free. Since then, Carla has also guided me through ankle rehab, knee pain, and concussion management, always finding ways to keep me moving forward and getting stronger. Thanks to her knowledge, patience, and guidance, I’m now the strongest I’ve ever been.

Alongside that, Dr. Blair has been instrumental in helping me manage back pain, neck pain, concussion recovery, knee pain, and ankle rehab. His approach blends soft tissue work, mobility, adjustments, acupuncture, and exercise, making every treatment both effective and focused on long-term results. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had Rick as my coach for the 10in10in10 Marathon Challenge - our goal was to run 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days across all 10 Canadian provinces, all in support of raising $1 million for children’s charities.
Given the scale of the event, the media attention, and the support of over a thousand donors, the pressure to succeed was immense. I knew I needed a highly personalized training plan from an experienced ultra-marathon coach, and I was lucky to have Vital Performance and Rick Canning recommended to me.
Over 16 months, Rick guided me through more than 6,300 km of training. His ability to strike the perfect balance between pushing me to my limits and protecting me from injury was exceptional. He monitored my progress closely, adjusted my plan when needed, and ensured I arrived at the start line healthy, strong, and mentally prepared.
Rick’s support went beyond just physical training—he helped me develop race strategies, contingency plans, and the mental resilience needed to take on such a demanding challenge. Thanks to his expert coaching, I was fully prepared, and the 10in10in10 could not have gone better.

I was initially on the fence as to whether I should do the Hip Foundations Program? Reason is that I have no current or past issues with my hips...I did however experience recurring knee and ankle injuries, to which physio always recommended hip strengthening. Well after discussing with Carla she gifted me for Mothers Day!! Best Gift Ever!!!
Only a few weeks into the program I already noticed improvements. The program was easy to follow and I did it from home. I would highly recommend this to anyone! My greatest take away is a remarkably improved overall balance. (Yoga, Paddle Boarding, Mountain Biking, Hiking, and later Snowboarding).

Vital has helped me take the next step with my running. I have been working with Carla for almost 4 years after struggling with persistent swelling in one of my knees. After working with excellent physiotherapists at Coalition and religiously completing my exercises daily for months, they recommended seeking support from Carla. Carla meticulously studied and helped adjust movement patterns within my walking and running gate to resolve the swelling issues! Since then, Carla has helped me remain active and gain strength through recurring episodes of low-back pain. She’s a magician!

Last fall, I was diagnosed with severe degenerative changes at L2-3, including a 9mm right lateral listhesis of L2 on L3, severe disc height loss, and osteophytosis. I felt hopeless. The pain was debilitating and began to take over my life. After a series of failed injections, surgery became my only option.

Then I found Carla.

Over the past few months, I’ve been working with her to strengthen my back and body in preparation for surgery. For the first time in years, I’ve been able to work out and build strength without pain. My trust in Carla is absolute. She has not only guided me physically but has also given me something I hadn’t felt in a long time: hope.

On July 28, I will undergo L2-3 DLIF surgery (right-sided approach) with minimally invasive posterior pedicle screw fixation. I go into this surgery confident that the work I’ve done with Carla has set me up for the best possible outcome.

I look forward to continuing our work together in recovery. I know with complete certainty that under her guidance, I’ll come back stronger than ever.

Carla and Nick are a wealth of knowledge. They are always looking into the latest research and improving themselves.

As a practitioner myself, I have learned so much from them and have applied a lot of their practices to my own clients - leading to amazing results!

On a personal note, they have helped me overcome concussions and get back into working out more than once. My hips, shoulders, neck and lower back felt strong and I was no longer in constant pain! Plus they got me the back of my dreams for my wedding 😉 I also feel a lot more confident and equipped to make my own programming work for me.

Carla and her team have been incredible to work with. Visited with Dr. Mac Forde for a few weeks to address some ongoing elbow pain in both my arms from golf. He was excellent to deal with and had me pain free within a few weeks with some very simple / easy to follow exercises to prevent future issues. Will definitely see him for any eventual issues I run into.
